Youngju sa |
|
King Jeong-Jo, the leader of modernization in the latter period of the Choseon dynasty, built Yongjusa to pray for the repose of his father's soul, for he had died an unnatural death. King Jeong-Jo filled the entire temple with filial affection through enshrining the engraved wood-block 'Bumo-eunjung sutra,' a sutra of concrete teachings about parental favor, for his father, Crown Prince Sado. Yongjusa is in a snug natural area not too far from the center of the city of Suwon, where the famous Suwon-Hwaseong (fortress) is designated as a world cultural heritage. Yongjusa has the Yongjusa Buddhist Temple Bell, which is a good example of Korean bells that have been used for 1,000 successive years (National treasure No 120. Koryo dharma bell). |
